Nintendo hosted a 50-minute live stream today that focused on games coming to the Nintendo Switch in the first half of 2021. This is the first time the company has hosted a full-fledged Nintendo Direct live stream since September 2019 and they gave fans lots to look forward to. There are tons of big announcements and trailers to get hyped about, so let’s get into it!
Mario Golf: Super Rush Announced
Mario Golf has always held a special place in my heart as one of the best sports games ever since it originally released on the N64. I’m so stoked that we’re getting this brand new release that features a new mode called Speed Golf. It looks absolutely insane as players sprint towards each hole and try to win as quickly as possible. You don’t even have to wait for your opponents to take their turn. It’s total mayhem. There’s also a story mode to play through and level up as well.
Mario Golf: Super Rush releases for Nintendo Switch on June 25th, 2021. You can pre-order now.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
Originally released on the Wii back in 2011, this HD remastered version of Skyward Sword allows you to play with either the Joy-Con motion controls or with a pro controller. If you’re not a fan of swinging your arms around, you don’t have to. It’s no ‘Breath of the Wild 2’ announcement, but I’m always down for more Legend of Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword releases for Nintendo Switch on July 16th, 2021. You can pre-order now.
Splatoon 3 Announced for 2022 Release
Details are scarce right now, but knowing that another Splatoon is on the way is great news. There looks like there’s a new Bow-type weapon that you can use, and it’ll still retain the ink-splatting gameplay we’ve come to expect from the series. Can it be 2022 already?
Super Mario Themed Items coming to Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting a Mario-themed makeover this month. There are a ton of new items to unlock and they all look so cool. My favorite has to be the Warp Pipe. You can use two warp pipes to travel across your island in seconds, which is such a huge help if your island is covered in all sorts of things. Animal Crossing fans will have plenty of new content to check out with this update.
The free update will be available on February 25th, 2021.
Pyra & Mythra joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be joining the always-expanding cast of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this March. Using their flame and teleport abilities, you can also swap between both characters freely at any time during combat. We don’t know exactly when the character will release, but I’m sure we won’t have to wait long to find out.
Fall Guys Releasing on Switch this Summer
Devolver Digital’s battle royale/party game made waves on PC and PS4, but soon you’ll be able to jump into all the crazy shenanigans and team-based games we all loath so much on-the-go when it releases for Nintendo Switch this Summer.
Apex Legends Launches on Switch this March
Speaking of Battle Royale’s, Switch players will be able to dive into this free-to-play battle royale starting next month. The first two weeks after it releases, you’ll be able to earn double xp too. Not too shabby. Also, if you’re looking for players to squad up with, check out The Dad Gaming – Apex Legends on Facebook!
Apex Legends launches for Nintendo Switch on March 9th, 2021.
Star Wars: Hunters Announced
This teaser trailer was pretty bare-bones, but Star Wars: Hunters will be a free-to-play, team-based, competitive shooter. We’ll have to wait for a little more info and actual gameplay to fully understand how it’s going to play.
What did you think of today’s announcements and what are you looking forward to playing? Remember, this is only the release schedule for the first half of 2021 too, so who knows what else awaits Nintendo fans in the second half. It’s gonna be another great year for gaming.
